Acceptable use of library computers and the Internet

Tillamook County Library is committed to providing free and open access to informational, educational, recreational and cultural resources for library users of all ages and backgrounds.  The Tillamook County Library has information available in a variety of formats, from print materials to audiovisual materials.  Library computers provide the opportunity to integrate electronic resources from information networks around the world. Internet Computers Rules for Use

  1. The computers have access to the Web for information only.
  2. Users can sign up for 1 session per day. 
  3. Anyone can use the terminals, but kids under 8 must have an adult with them.
  4. You can print out information - 10 cents a page, please pay at the Front Desk.
  5. Only 2 people at a time may use a computer.
  6. A library card is needed to make a reservation.

Internet Access Statement

The Tillamook County Library is pleased to provide information resources through the Internet.  The library is making available access to the Internet as part of our mission to "provide access to information."  The Internet offers access to many valuable sources of information, but not all sites are accurate, complete, or current.  There are many sites that carry information which people may find controversial or inappropriate.  The Library cannot protect users from information or graphics which they may consider offensive.  Internet use for illegal purposes is prohibited.  Users are encouraged to take advantage of the Internet and to exercise good judgement and discretion.  Parents are encouraged to supervise their children's Internet sessions.

Wireless Internet Access

If you have a PC or Mac notebook enabled with Wi-Fi, you can have high speed access to the Internet and subscription databases while visiting the Tillamook County Library.  Just bring your laptop with wireless networking card installed to the Pacific City Library and connect to the Internet.  There will also be wireless Internet access at the new Tillamook County Library Main Branch.  No passwords are required, all are welcome.

Wireless Card Settings:

  • Mode: Infrastructure  
  • SSID: any (lower case)  
  • WEP: disabled

Additional notes regarding wireless use in the library:

  • Printers are not available via the wireless connection in the library.
  • Library staff may not configure patron laptops or install PCMCIA cards.
  • There is no guarantee of service at any specific time.
  • The Library's Internet Policy applies to the Wireless Internet Connection.
  • We ask you to limit your use to one hour a day.
  • Laptop can not be plugged into electrical outlet.

The Library assumes no responsibility for: virus or security protection; any alterations or interference with a laptop's configuration, operation, or data files resulting from connection to the wireless network; or damage, theft, or loss of any kind to a user's equipment, software, data files, or other personal property brought into or used at the Library's facilities.  Patrons shall defend, indemnify and hold the County of Tillamook, its officers, employees, and agents harmless against all claims, actions, and judgments based upon or arising out of the patron's use of Library wireless connections.

The Tillamook County Library welcomes everyone to use and enjoy its services.  To protect each person's access to information and library services, the following rules of behavior have been established.  These rules protect the rights and safety of library patrons and staff, and preserve and protect the library's materials, facilities and property.
