Summer Reading

Be Creative @ Your Library

Summer Reading 2009

The theme for the Tillamook County Library’s summer reading program this year is “Be Creative @ Your Library.” Registration will begin the week of June 15. Children can sign up throughout the summer at the main library, the branch libraries (Garibaldi, Manzanita, Bay City, Pacific City, and Rockaway Beach) or on the bookmobile. There will be weekly programs every Thursday at the Tillamook library. Children (ages 3-5) will meet from 10:00-10:30 a.m. and children (ages 6-12) will meet from 2:00-3:00 p.m. This summer special guests will perform at the Thursday afternoon storytime in the community rooms at the mail library from June 18 to August 13.

There will also be weekly storytimes at the branch libraries. Children will meet at Pacific City every Friday at 1:00 for ages 3-5 and at 1:45 for ages 6-12; at Garibaldi on Wednesdays at 1:00; at Manzanita on Saturdays at 11:00; at Bay City every Thursday at 3:30 and at Rockaway Beach on Mondays at 3:00 for ages 3-5 and Tuesdays at 3:00 for ages 6-12

At the end of the summer there will be a party (August 13) at the main library for all participants. A free book and certificate will be presented to those who have read for 10 hours or more. Preschool children, involved with the Read-To-Me-Club, will receive a free book and certificate if they have had someone read to them for 10 hours or more. There will also be a drawing for special prizes at the party. Children may enter their names in the drawing each time they visit the library throughout the summer. Awards will be given and a drawing held at each branch library and on the bookmobile as well.

We are planning on having a great time and hope to keep many children involved with books all summer long!

Make a READ poster at the Tillamook Library!

view all read posters

We think our local readers are celebrities too. If you would like to make your own READ poster bring one of your favorite books to the front desk. A helpful staff member will happily take your photograph and, in a couple of days, your READ poster will be on display throughout the end of May. Each participant will qualify to enter a drawing for one official American Library Association READ poster. The drawing for the Twilight READ poster and the Danica Patrick READ poster will be held on Saturday, May 30th.
